Market Overview
Vietnam keeps roughly 25–26 million pigs and produces around 3.5 million tonnes of pork a year, placing it among the top six pork producers globally. Pork accounts for about two-thirds of meat consumption in the country, and the sector is shifting rapidly from backyard holdings to commercial farms of 1,000–10,000 head in Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Hung Yen, and the Red River and Mekong deltas.
Since African swine fever was first confirmed in Hung Yen province in February 2019, Vietnam has lost well over six million pigs to culling, and the virus remains endemic in most provinces. Vietnam was also the first country to approve commercial ASF vaccines (2023), which makes disease surveillance — knowing which herds are infected before and after vaccination — even more important for farms, integrators, and the veterinary pharma companies that serve them.
Molecular testing in Vietnam is still concentrated in regional animal health laboratories and a handful of private labs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Samples travel for days; results arrive after movement or treatment decisions have already been taken. This gap between the farm and the laboratory is exactly where a 2 kg, battery-powered real-time PCR analyzer fits.
Regulatory Pathway
Competent authority
Veterinary diagnostics are overseen by the Department of Animal Health (Cục Thú y) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (formerly the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, MARD), under the Law on Veterinary Medicine (2015) and its implementing decrees.
Diagnostic reagents
Veterinary diagnostic kits and reagents intended for sale in Vietnam are generally required to be registered and granted a circulation permit before commercial distribution. The registration file typically includes manufacturer quality certificates (ISO 13485), product specifications, validation data (sensitivity, specificity, limit of detection), stability data, and Vietnamese labeling. Local testing or evaluation by a designated national laboratory may be requested.
Instruments
The CarryOn analyzer is an in-vitro diagnostic instrument; import requirements are lighter than for reagents, but the device and its chips are normally registered together as a system by the Vietnamese importer of record.
How Yinrui Bio supports partners
We provide the complete technical dossier in English (CE declaration, ISO 13485 certificate, IFUs, validation reports) and can supply samples for local evaluation. Registration is filed by the Vietnamese distribution partner, who becomes the license holder. Typical timelines run several months; we recommend starting with the ASF and PRRSV chips, which address the most urgent demand.
Shipping & Logistics
Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Hung Yen)
Port of Hai Phong. Ocean freight from Ningbo takes about 4–7 days with multiple weekly direct services. Road freight via the Guangxi–Lang Son border is also possible for urgent consolidated shipments.
Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong)
Cat Lai / Cai Mep ports. Ocean freight from Ningbo takes about 7–10 days.
Express courier (DHL / FedEx / SF)
3–5 business days door-to-door for sample units and starter chip kits.
**No cold chain required.** The CarryOn device and all test chips store and ship at 15–30 °C, which removes the single biggest logistics cost and failure point for molecular diagnostics in Vietnam's tropical climate. Chips arrive ready to use and can be stocked at provincial depots without refrigeration.
Trade terms
FOB Ningbo standard; CIF Hai Phong or Ho Chi Minh City available on request. Payment by T/T; samples can be shipped on 100% prepayment with the cost credited against the first order.
Key Applications
African swine fever surveillance (primary demand)
Pre-movement screening of pigs, sentinel testing after vaccination, checking incoming breeding stock, and confirming suspected cases at the farm before the official laboratory result arrives. The CarryOn ASF chip runs on whole blood or tissue in under 60 minutes.
PRRS (blue ear) herd monitoring
Serum or whole blood testing of sows and weaners to track circulation and time vaccination. The PRRSV chip uses the same device.
Expanding swine panels
Classical swine fever (CSF), porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2), and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) are the next most requested targets from Vietnamese partners; custom panels are available for distribution agreements.
Poultry
Avian influenza (H5N1/H5N6) surveillance on commercial layer and broiler farms in the Red River and Mekong deltas.
Aquaculture
Vietnam is the world's third-largest shrimp exporter. White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and EHP screening at hatcheries and grow-out ponds is a growing use case for portable PCR.
Companion animals
The pet market in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is growing more than 10% a year; canine parvovirus/distemper and feline panels serve urban veterinary clinics with the same device.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the CarryOn detect African swine fever on a Vietnamese pig farm without a laboratory?
Yes. The ASF test chip runs real-time fluorescence PCR on whole blood or tissue homogenate inside a sealed microfluidic chip. Extraction, amplification, and detection are automatic, and the result appears on the touchscreen in under 60 minutes. The 2 kg device runs on battery for about 3.5 hours, so a technician can test at the farm gate or in a vehicle.
Is the CarryOn registered with Vietnam's Department of Animal Health?
Registration in Vietnam is filed by the local distribution partner as license holder. Yinrui Bio supplies the complete dossier — CE declaration, ISO 13485 certificate, validation data, and IFUs — and samples for any required local evaluation. We recommend starting with the ASF and PRRSV chips.
How is the CarryOn different from a benchtop real-time PCR machine?
A benchtop qPCR system (10–20 kg, 4–7 channels, mains power, 96-well plates) belongs in a laboratory and needs a separate extraction step, trained staff, and frozen reagents. The CarryOn is 2 kg, battery powered, 5-color, with extraction built into a room-temperature chip. It trades plate capacity for the ability to test at the farm. Many distributors sell both: benchtop units for the central lab, CarryOn units for field teams.
Which other swine diseases can be tested?
Thirteen swine chips run on the same CarryOn device: African swine fever, PRRS, classical swine fever, pseudorabies, PCV2, Glaesserella parasuis, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, TGE, rotavirus, PED, porcine parvovirus, foot-and-mouth disease and Japanese encephalitis. Running the ASF and CSF chips side by side on one blood sample gives a farm-level differential diagnosis within the hour.
How long does shipping from China to Vietnam take?
Ocean freight from Ningbo to Hai Phong takes about 4–7 days, to Ho Chi Minh City about 7–10 days. Express courier delivers sample units in 3–5 business days. Nothing needs refrigeration in transit.
Is a Vietnamese-language interface available?
The device ships with English and Chinese interfaces. Localized language packs, Vietnamese labeling, and Vietnamese training materials are prepared for distribution partners as part of the registration process. Operation requires only four steps, and most staff are trained in about 30 minutes.
