Porcine pleuropneumonia causes sudden death and bloody nasal discharge in finishing pigs and carries silently in tonsils of survivors. PCR on tonsil swabs identifies carrier animals that lung lesions and serology miss, supporting herd eradication and purchase screening. Runs on the CarryOn portable analyzer with a sealed, single-use microfluidic chip; nucleic acid extraction and real-time fluorescence PCR are fully automatic, and chips store at room temperature.
